Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “ıvır zıvır sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine demetlanmasıyla oluşan kısaltarak polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız lafıntısı ile öbürü arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]

Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok nüshada polipeptit madun birimi çitndırır). Baz başkalık peptitlerin kısaltarak, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]

Protein sentezi esnasında her amino hamız, gayrı amino asite geceli gündüzlü, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle demetlanır. Polipeptid kuruluşsına peklan amino asitlerin her biri kuruluşya peptid demetlarıyla demetlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir sutaş çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]

Vasati bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilinen en uzun polipeptit, kestirmece 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine peklan amino asitlere lafıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lafıntı, bağ yapmamış, azade amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin gayrı ucundaki azade α-karboksil grubu olan lafıntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
